Weekly Round Up: E! In Africa, AKA in Canada and Yeezy in Madison Square Garden

1. #eafricaparty

FOMO immediately hit me when Gert Johan Coetzee announced that he had something big coming on 11th Feb in partnership with E! Entertainment.

The #eafricaparty FOMO was made worse by Bonang Matheba‘s announcement that she would also be at the E! in Africa party to make an announcement.

I was honestly expecting B* to tell us that she had scored a reality show with E! but in true Queen B fashion, she’ll be

expanding her global brand as the first face of E! Africa. Congrats 👑🐝

2. SONA Red Carpet

Bonang and Gert should actually just be crowned Fashion’s First Couple. While B* was going global, Gert was making bank by dressing not one but TWO women for the #SONA16 red carpet.

Thuli Madonsela stole the show in a

canary colored Gert Johan Coetzee design while her satorial sister, Norma Gigaba stunned in a Gert Johan Coetzee gown alongside her ever dapper husband, Minister of Home Affairs – Malusi Gigaba.

The Internet has been abuzz with chatter about how Madonsela’s dress was similar in colour and design to two other GJC dresses once worn by Matheba and Minnie Dlamini but no amount of similarly will ever take away from how gorgeous each woman looked in each gown. There is enough black girl magic to go around.

Another fashion favorite was Nomvula Mokhonyane in Thula Sindi.

3. #YeezySeason3

Kanye West OWNED the Internet with his simultaneous fashion show, titled Yeezy Season 3 and listening party for his much awaited, thrice-renamed album ‘The Life of Pablo.’

The fashion show was a star studded affair of note with Naomi Campbell ripping the runway while the likes of Zana Roberts-Rassi, Kid CuDi, The Kardashians and our very own Nomzamo Mbatha live tweeted the affair from Madison Square Garden in New York.

Word on the street is that Yae wants to make a few post production tweaks before releasing TLOP but after drawing 20 Million viewers for the event, chances are, the album might do well. After all, his fans believe in him so much, they could sell a blank disc to themselves.

4. Africa in the 6 – Carol Tshabala and AKA hit up the NBA All Star Weekend

Last night , the #3RDWRLDBOSS, performed at the exclusive, by-invitation-only inaugural OkayAfrica, Africa In The 6 event.

The mixtape follows her 2013 project titled Circus Café, and her 2014 mixtape titled Colour of Reign. Both mixtapes scored Lamayne Four South African Hip Hop Awards in the categories Best Newcomer, Best Mixtape and Best Female (for two consecutive years).

She also released the visuals for her hit single #MOJA featuring WTF on Channel O and Live Amp this past Friday.

#MOJA has garnered a lot of traction in the streets and on radio stations across the country and can be found on the #GroundZeroMixtape.

You can download #MOJA featuring WTF here or stream it here.

6. #JetLoveYourself campaign

Earlier this week, clothing retailer Jet unveiled their #JetLoveYourself campaign featuring a mix of dynamic women proudly posing in lingerie.

Fashion blogger Yoliswa Mqoco, publicist Melanie Ramjee, entertainer Lee-Ann Kisten-Dlamini as well as poet and activist Nova Masango have received nothing but positive feedback from their followers for appearing in the campaign providing rare representation for the multidimensional South African woman.

This was a great move on Jet’s part. Kudos to the team that conceptualized and executed the campaign.
