The fanfare surrounding the 10th Annual South African Film and Television Awards was at an all-time high with the introduction of E! Entertainment into the mix.
This was evident from the get-go with the way in which registration and the red carpet were handled. Considering what a seamless, organized and aesthetic dream it was, I am starting to appreciate how
local award organizers are upping the red carpet game.
Although it seems as though the theme was the main focus this year, the organizers put a lot of thought and planning into making the interview process as effortless as possible for the media. In my opinion, this made it easier to put the local television and film industry (including screenwriters, scriptwriters, directors, producers, make-up technicians and artists, and actors and actresses) front and center.
All eyes were undoubtedly on the E! Africa red carpet hosts Bonang Matheba, Maps Maponyane and Mika Stefano as they covered all the red carpet action alongside official red carpet hosts Somizi Mhlongo and Nadia Neopythou.
Although we’ll all have to wait until tomorrow night at 8 to see the E! Beyond the Red Carpet SAFTA’s special, Bonang’s second outfit is still one of the #SAFTAs10 talking points. The Taibo Bacar gown (styled by Law ‘Luxury Law’ Roach and Harrison ‘H Diddy’ Crite) was even featured on acclaimed fashion website ‘The Fashion Bomb.’ Halala B! Taking over the world one major move at a time.
The spotlight was not solely on the red carpet though. Minnie Dlamini stunned in every single Gert Johan Coetzee look that she wore to co-host the award ceremony beside Katlego Maboe who later proved why he got the job by taking home the award for best presenter. Other winners include Vusi Kunene who took the golden horn home for best actor for his portrayal of Bhekifa Ntshangase in Isibaya as well as the show Skeem Saam that took home the best soapie award.
