The new drama series, produced by Penguin Films, follows the story of a bare-knuckle boxing champion who runs away from home in the middle of the night to follow his dream of becoming a champion in Johannesburg.
And so it begins…
Neo (played by Mpho Sebeng) gets scouted by well-known manager, Mandla (played by Masoja Msiza) on the dusty streets of rural Limpopo. His parents are disapproving of his dream to become a boxer and that is why he runs away.
After arriving in Johannesburg, he soon meets and falls in love with Mandla’s daughter, the innocent Sli (Dineo Nchabeleng), and subsequently encounters his formidable opponent, Kabelo (played by Bohang Moeko).
This series of events catapults Neo into a world of secrets, betrayals and lies. It is soon revealed that Neo’s mother, Naledi (played by Florence Masebe) shares a dark history with Mandla, and there’s more to Mandla’s intentions than meets the eye.
Unlike most local shows, the series is set in Limpopo, Soweto, Johannesburg and KwaZulu-Natal, showcasing a variety of locations and languages. Other cast members include: Baby Cele in the role of Mandla’s wife Ruth, Tessa Twala as the young temptress Gugu, and Slindile Nodangala as Thando (who has her own dark secrets to reveal).
Ring of Lies is set to debut on Monday, 2 May 2016 on Mzansi Magic (DSTV channel 161) and will air every Monday to Thursday at 21h00.
