With just a few hours to go until the second season of their highly popular show kicks off, I spoke to Lexi Van Niekerk of “Mandla and Lexi” about the upcoming season, what fans will get to see and whether or not her gorgeous brother is ready for all the attention that is certainly going to come his way.
Mandla Hlatshwayo and Lexi met in the Big Brother house of the first season of Big Brother Mzansi two years ago and despite their incredibly risqué and highly publicized start, they’ve been going strong ever since. So strong in fact, that they have had to deal with their fair share of pregnancy and engagement rumours.
The new season’s trailer even plays with fans emotions by teasing the possibility of the couple finally getting engaged…
It is no secret that Lexi has proposed to Mandla twice but will the couple finally make it official and provide an explanation for that ring she’s been seen wearing on her Instagram?
Apart from that, Lexi says fans will get to see what she and Mandla have been up to, both as a couple and as individuals in the media arena as well as the businesses they’ve set up.
“Every single moment, I’ve just been myself. There was no scene that was put on or any fakeness. It’s all me, whether I was in a bad mood or didn’t feel like shooting or I’m excited about something… All will be there and I think people should just wait and see. I know it sounds very cliché but the entire show is what fans have been begging to see so we tried to fit it all into 10 episodes.”
Lexi is also very excited to have her brother join the show but she revealed that she is very protective over him.
“He’s not yet used to the industry and the cameras were quite overwhelming for him,” she adds.
He is quite cute and I asked her if she’s ready for all the thirst he’ll be receiving via her accounts (since he is not on social media) but Lexi says she’s more worried about how the media is going to handle him, especially when it comes to his past.
Lexi has learned how to deal with social media users because she says they tend to speak on an issue before understanding the full story and she has passed that info on to her brother in order to prepare him for whatever may come as a result of the show.
Mandla and Lexi starts tonight at 8pm on Mzansi Magic DSTV channel 161 and repeats every Saturday at 7pm.
