You probably stopped dead in your tracks after reading the words “bad bitch” but now that you’re here…
Let’s talk about the second annual Bad Bitch Experience will be taking place this weekend, 1 April, at Edamini Lounge in Midrand after a successful inaugural affair in 2016.
We caught up with the event’s founder and organizer to chat more about the upcoming Bad Bitch Experience set to be hosted by photographer and social media influencer Thick Leeyonce.
Kagiso KandyBoi Mokoena is a Johannesburg based designer, stylist, image consultant and chief advocate for the Bad Bitches Get Money #BBGM movement.
“For me, it’s a woman empowerment gig, it’s a lifestyle gig, it’s fun, it’s out there and it’s just about girls celebrating each other’s talents and gifts. The bad and the good,” explains Mokoena.
He says he wanted to give women a platform to just have a good time while looking great and being the focus of the day.
As such, he has an entirely female DJ line up this year in addition to an all-girl logistics and organizational team.
The genres played by the DJ line up will span across everything from reggae, commercial house and deep-house to techno, hip-hop and trap.
“This is just a warm up, I want to become as big as events such as Pop Bottles and Major League Gardens so I that can also book bigger artists and hosts in the local entertainment industry”
According to Mokoena, this year’s theme is “just being bad” and he plans to keep that theme until the end of time. He therefore expects attendees, both male and female to dress accordingly. He was even kind enough to suggest a few outfit ideas with the images he supplied.
“It’s the age of the bad bad’s right now and i’m just celebrating every girl’s inner bad-bad and thot”
*Thot: a slang term based on an acronym for the phrase “that hoe over there”
“This is just me trying to get them to just celebrate themselves the way they are. They shouldn’t apologize for being who they are and for putting their foot down. Unfortunately, as a woman, when you’re trying to get things done, you kinda have to be a bitch but when it’s a man, he’s ‘just being a firm,'” he continues.
KandyBoi believes that celebrations like this go a long way in reclaiming such words and celebrating the many ways to be a woman as there is not right or wrong way for one to do it.
So, if you want to go and be bad and boujee amongst like minded women, head out to Midrand to show KandyBoi some love in order to make the third Bad Bad Experience (planned for 4 November 2017) a reality.
Pre-sale tickets to tomorrow’s event are completely sold out but tickets will be available at the door at R100 per head.
