Scoop Makhathini returns to YFM

Every YFM listener has a favourite YFM era in mind and mine was the era in which Sizwe Dhlomo and Siyabonga ‘Scoop’ Ngwekazi reigned with Siz and Scoop’s ‘Full Clip.’ย

South African hip hop found a home every Thursday evening when those two took to their airwaves to discuss the hip-hop and pop culture news of the week, introduce us to new music and put new talent on the map with the show’s cyphers and battles.

Various radio stations have since made way for similar shows like Loot Love and DJ Speedsta’s ‘Absolute Hip Hop’ on Metro FM and YFM’s ‘The Hip Hop Floor’ but no show will ever come close.

And that applies to Scoop’s new show, ‘The Rodeo’ which will see him return to YFM after a few years of doing the TV thing.

The choice to pair Scoop with Bontle sounds like YFM was adhering to the maxim “something old, something new” as Scoop is set to bring experience and nostalgia to the table while Bontle brings a fresh perspective and new energy.

โ€œWeโ€™re on a mission to dominate the global hip hop scene within the South African space and we see no better pair of hosts to deliver this. YFM has always been at the forefront of bringing the best music and fearless conversations to the listeners, trust me when I say itโ€™s no different this time around, weโ€™re about to own this space!โ€ said YFM Programming Manager, Tumelo Diaho-Monaheng in a statement.

According to YFM, “generational relation, global and local music playlists, ranks, charts and current affairs within the hip hop world, are some of the features listeners can look forward to in October.”

No word on what happens to the ‘Hip Hop Floor’ now that ‘The Rodeo’ is in town so we guess we’ll just have to wait and see if YFM is big enough for two hip-hop focused shows.
